IMAGES: OVERVIEW

As you will discover as you learn more about CUSTTAD here and in your own work - the trays which children produce are amazingly varied and their drawings and comments can be astonishingly expressive.  And, in relatively simple ways e.g. with one small item or detail children will sometimes let you know exactly what is of interest or major concern.

Also as you will be aware there are specialists who have spent many years studying the significance of what children produce in sand trays and in drawings and who draw on what they find there to inform their work.  However with the CUSTTAD approach we are neither equipped nor do we aspire to achieve that level of understanding and expertise.

Also any attempt to begin conjecturing on the possibly deeper significance of what children produce is likely to get in the way of the carefully targeted but more limited - and achievable aims - which CUSTTAD is geared to pursue.

Of course over time and with experience you may begin to notice that features in a child’s trays or drawings relate directly to the  known FACTS about a child and what is happening in their life.  But let's stay with that word FACTS  because,  as we suggest here and elsewhere, if you are alert and focused on the FACTS that a child chooses to bring to theIr use of CUSTTAD  - along with any known FACTS from elsewhere - you will have ample opportunities to help them to address any concerns they may have. And you will be doing so at a level which is compatible with your evolving expertise and understanding of the work.

Included in the images are a few which represent REAL EVENTS: but these stay well within the boundaries set out  here i.e. that what was produced in the tray matched up with the FACTS of what was known to have occurred in real life.
